About the name: Micah Daniel

Adair and I had a heck of a time coming up with a boy's name this time around. Adair came up with a girl's name pretty quickly that we could both agree upon, but a "good" boy's name proved to be somewhat elusive. It wasn't until a scant few hours before he was born that I said "Well, I guess I can live with 'Micah'." It's almost like God was waiting for us to pick a name, and as soon as we agreed upon one, he "pushed the button" to drop him into our lives. :-)

Anyway, here's what Micah Daniel means...

Micah

According to Zondervan's Exhaustive Concordance, 2nd ed. in Hebrew, Micah [4777] means "Who is like Yahweh?" (Yahweh, or YHWH is the covenant name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob--our heavenly Father).

Micah was the prophet who served the LORD during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. He is one of the minor prophets of the Bible. He prophesied not only against the wickedness of Israel and Judah but also prophesied the exact location of our Savior Jesus' birth:

"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."
- Micah 5:2 (NIV)
Another very popular verse from this book is Micah 6:8:
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God. (NIV)

Daniel

Also a Hebrew name, Daniel means "God is my judge."

Why Daniel? My middle brother Jonathan Bruce, shares his middle name with our father Bruce Wayne (grandma was a big John Wayne fan!), so I thought that maybe we'd start a family tradition and use the father's first name as the second-born's middle name. We'll see if it catches when Caleb and Micah start families of their own.

Adair reminds me that her grandpa's name was Daniel as well. Hrmm...I learn something new every day.

Kreft

Not a Biblical name, but rather of German origin. I am told, though am not sure how to verify, that Kreft is a variant of Kraft, which means strong or strength.
